The development of resin abrasive tools in China is relatively fast, and the output, quality and variety of products are increasing year by year, especially in recent years, it has formed a good situation of vigorous development. Why resin bonded abrasives will develop so fast, in addition to the objective conditions, such as the social demand, there are sufficient raw materials and so on. And the fundamental reason is the unique performance of resin binder.

Let's talk about its advantages first: First of all, it has high bonding strength. Compared with other binders, resin has higher bonding strength, can be used at higher speeds, and can withstand greater grinding pressure, so it is widely used in deburring and rough grinding in the steel and foundry industries. And with the improvement of the grinding process, the requirements for the grinding load and strength of the cutting blade are getting higher and higher. It has been developed from the portable grinder and suspended grinder in the past to today's high-speed and heavy-duty steel billet repair. The use speed of the grinding machine and the cutting disc has been developed from 35-40 m/s in the past to 80-100 m/s today. The load of the grinding wheel has grown from 30-50 kg in the past to more than 1,000 kg today. If It is difficult to achieve without a high-strength bonding agent.

Secondly, it can be made into special shape and special needs of abrasive tools. This is mainly because the resin bond is hardened at low temperature (below 200 ℃) without changing the basic properties of the material. Therefore, filling materials or embedded substances can be added for different needs. For example, in order to meet the grinding requirements, it can be made into grooved and porous grinding wheel. In order to improve the strength of the grinding wheel, glass mesh cloth and other metal wires can be added into the cutting piece. In order to increase the conductivity, copper powder, aluminum powder and graphite powder can be added.

Third, it is suitable for manufacturing flake grinding wheels of various specifications. It is widely used in the cutting and slotting process of many metal processing departments. The thickness can reach 0.1 mm. It can complete the processing task that the general saw blade can not complete. Especially after the high-speed enhanced cutting blade is widely used, the demand of cutting wheel increases rapidly.

Fourth, resin binder has certain elasticity. In the grinding process, it is beneficial to meet the requirements of high surface roughness of workpiece. In the process of machining, resin bonded grinding wheel is used in the finishing and polishing processes. Under the same conditions, the finish of resin grinding tool is higher than that of ceramic grinding tool.

But resin grinding tools also have disadvantages:
The first is poor heat resistance. The durability of the cutting piece will be affected. Therefore, when choosing grinding wheel, the resin is harder than ceramic bond under the same grinding conditions.

Second, the alkali resistance is poor. The resin is easy to be destroyed when stored in alkaline solution for a long time, and its bonding strength and hardness will gradually decrease. Therefore, in the process of grinding with resin grinding tools, the alkaline especially strong alkaline coolant should be avoided as far as possible.

Third, resin abrasive has poor water resistance. Long term contact with water, easy to reduce its binding properties, so resin grinding tools should not be stored for a long time, more than a year after the inspection.
