Black corundum and brown corundum, both used widely as artificial abrasives, carry their respective missions in industry. However, many people will ask what is the difference between black corundum and brown corundum when choosing abrasives.

Black corundum and brown corundum generally have similar raw materials, but in practice there are still very different, black corundum and brown corundum can be shown in the following aspects:

1.Different colors

The color of brown corundum is brown, sometimes black and sometimes light red; the color of black corundum is black and has metal color.

2.Hardness is different

As the content of the alumina in the brown corundum is higher than that of the black corundum, the hardness of the brown corundum is also larger than that of the black corundum.

3.Alumina(Aluminium Oxide, SiO2) content is different

The alumina content of brown corundum is between 75 and 96, while that of black corundum is between 45 and 76. Alumina content is much lower than brown corundum.

4. Used for different workpieces

Brown corundum is a general abrasive, and most of the workpieces can be used. Black corundum is only for some special user workpieces, like stainless steel.

5.Different smelting methods

In fact, the smelting method of black corundum is similar to that of brown corundum, but the power consumption of black corundum is lower than that of brown corundum, which is about 2/3 of that of brown corundum.

6.The characteristics are different

The brown corundum is moderate in hardness, high in toughness, good in self-sharpening property, low in sand consumption, recyclable and good in finish. But also has stable chemical composition, abrasion resistance and acid and alkali resistance. The abrasive material has a shell-like fracture with a sharp edge and an edge, and can form a new angular and grinding capability during the continuous grinding and grading process.

The black corundum has good self-sharpening property, little heat generation during grinding, good smoothness of the work piece and good hydrophilicity.

7.The purpose is different

The brown corundum can be used for the production processing of the refractory material, the polishing and grinding of the fine device and the auxiliary raw material of the wear-resistant material;

The black corundum can be used for polishing the aluminum product and the stainless steel, and can be used for manufacturing the abrasive paper, the abrasive cloth, the resin grinding tool and the like.
