Car collision repair is the most common task in car repair shops, among which car paint repair is essential. In order to keep the car paint smooth and clean as before, polishing is a necessary process. However, due to the lack of available equipment or non-standard polishing processes and operations, the effectiveness and efficiency of polishing can be greatly affected. Now, let's share some experience in polishing equipment and processes.
Reasons for polishing
1. The function of polishing
Polishing can further reduce surface roughness and obtain a smooth surface, but it cannot change the shape of the surface. After polishing, the surface accuracy and position accuracy of the finish can be higher, and the surface roughness Ra value can be less than 0.6μm.
2. Purpose of polishing
Remove defects and imperfections from the repaired surface. Restore the gloss loss caused by other factors to achieve consistency with the original paint gloss.
3. Polishing principle
After the repair coating is dried, if the texture of the repainted surface is different from the original paint surface, then the protrusions (rough textures or particles that appear after painting and drying) on the painted surface need to be removed to obtain a surface similar to the original coating.
polish technology
1. Polishing method
2. Polishing process
Step polishing process
A. Grinding
Step 1: Remove orange lines and blemishes on the paint surface.
Recommended product: garnet type P1500.
Features: Excellent grinding smoothness and fine surface roughness.
Attention: Dry grinding is used for easy cleaning. If you encounter sandpaper sticking, please clean it immediately.
B. Polishing
Step 2: Remove sandpaper marks and polish
Recommended accessories and consumables: premium wool ball, one-step polishing agent (MPA 5000)
Advanced wool ball features: strong cutting force, fast removal of sandpaper marks
Suggestion: Use the edge of the grinding ball for effective grinding
One step in place polishing agent features: fast removal of sandpaper marks while improving glossiness
Attention: Shake thoroughly and mix before use
C. Polishing precautions
1. When polishing, the polishing machine and the surface to be polished can be slightly tilted, making it easy to quickly remove sand marks.
2. Avoid gravity compression, move evenly, and avoid excessive speed.
3. The movement direction can be operated in a # font.
4. The movement range should overlap between 1/3 and 1/4 of the trajectory, preferably with the shoulder as the boundary.
D. Additional suggestions during operation.
1) About Wool Balls
1. It is not recommended to clean the wool ball, as it can easily cause bonding and clumping, and also make the wool brittle. This will significantly reduce the polishing performance of the wool and may damage the paint surface as a result.
2. Before using new wool, the surface should be moistened with a polishing agent before polishing.
2) About Sponge Balls
1. Before using a new sponge ball, the surface should also be moistened with a polishing agent before polishing.
2. Before reusing an old sponge ball that has been used multiple times, the surface should also be moistened with a polishing agent, otherwise the dry and astringent surface will affect polishing efficiency and leave small "stains".
3. Sponge balls should be replaced regularly.
3) About Polishing Agents
1. Shake thoroughly before use to improve the ability of internal grinding particles to remove sand marks and improve polishing speed.
2. After use, simply use a soft cloth to easily clean the surface and surrounding residual substances.
4) About Polishing Machines
1. When operating, first apply the polishing agent and lay it flat on the paint surface before starting the machine.
2. 2. When rough polishing, the polishing machine speed should be adjusted to 1-3 gears; Avoiding wax splashing and easy to quickly remove sandpaper marks.
3. When polishing, the polishing machine speed should be adjusted to 4-5 gears; Improve glossiness and clean surface wax.
4. When restoring, the polishing machine speed should be adjusted to 5-6 gears; Eliminate zebra stripes caused by glazing.
